Curriculum
The Midlothian ISD Curriculum and Instruction division is committed to providing all students a learning experience using a guaranteed and viable curriculum that prepares them for their future beyond high school. Primary resources that are research-based, high quality instructional materials are provided for math, science, social studies, and reading/language arts for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. Additional primary resources are also in place for elective courses, such as Languages Other Than English (LOTE), Career and Technical Education (CTE), Fine Arts, etc.
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) provides curriculum standards statewide, which outline what students should know and be able to do in each course or grade, called the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). The Midlothian ISD pacing guides provide a brief overview of each cluster, the standards covered within each cluster, and the order in which the curriculum is generally covered. For more information about the TEKS, please visit this site.
MISD utilizes the Lead4ward Field Guides as the district TEKS framework for the four core areas in kindergarten through high school. Field Guides help teachers plan meaningful instruction that focuses on what matters most – what students need to know, how that translates to instruction and assessment, common errors and misconceptions, key academic vocabulary, and how the standards build over time. Located below, each grade level’s primary and supplemental resources are listed, along with parent portals if they have been created by the publisher. Parents are welcome to schedule a time to visit the student’s campus to review any curriculum resources. Course syllabi can also be found in your student’s Canvas account, MISD’s learning management system for each class in grades 4-12. To set up Canvas parent access, please visit this site.
If a course your student is assigned to is not available below, it is available electronically through your student’s classroom teacher. Teachers or campus administrators will provide, upon request by a parent, a printed copy of the instructional plan and a course syllabus, if one is available for that course. Questions regarding a specific instructional lesson or activity should be referred to the campus teacher or campus administration.
